The organization I am interning with is Campus View Church, a welcoming and community-focused church located in Athens, Georgia. Campus View is known for its commitment to service, outreach, and spiritual growth within the Athens community and on the nearby University of Georgia campus. The church is deeply rooted in its mission to foster meaningful relationships through Christ and create spaces where people can feel seen, heard, and loved.
I am currently located in Athens, GA, which has allowed me to be present and involved in person during my internship. Being local has given me the opportunity to participate in events, meetings, and day-to-day operations that help me better understand how the church functions both as a place of worship and as an organization that requires structure, planning, and communication to serve its community effectively.
My position is Social Media and Communications Intern, which means I am part of the team that handles all digital and promotional communication for the church. My responsibilities include creating content for social media platforms, drafting email newsletters, promoting upcoming church events, helping design graphics or flyers, and contributing to the overall digital strategy that Campus View uses to stay connected with its members. I also attend weekly staff meetings, where I provide updates and learn more about how communication ties into other ministry areas.
What I’m looking forward to the most during this internship is using my creative skills to make a meaningful impact. I love storytelling, and being able to tell the story of what God is doing through Campus View Church—whether through a post, a photo, or a video—is something I find incredibly fulfilling. I'm also excited to learn how churches engage with modern communication tools to spread their message and reach people in new ways.
While I feel confident in my communication skills, I do have some concerns about whether I’m fully prepared for the strategic planning that goes into long-term communication efforts. Balancing creativity with consistency and maintaining the church's tone and values across different platforms requires a level of professionalism and intentionality I’m still learning. Additionally, understanding analytics and evaluating the effectiveness of different kinds of outreach is an area I hope to grow in over the course of this internship.
I’m working closely with the church staff, including the preacher, administrative team, and sometimes volunteers who help with tech, media, and special events. Their job descriptions range from overseeing church operations, planning worship services, and coordinating community outreach, to managing internal and external communication efforts.
There is so much I can learn from the people I’m working with. For instance, the preacher has taught me how to tailor messages to different audiences while still staying true to the church’s voice. The administrative staff have shown me how behind-the-scenes planning makes events and initiatives run smoothly. Everyone works together with a deep sense of purpose and servant leadership, which has made me feel like a valuable part of the team.
Each of them contributes to the church’s success by bringing their unique talents and dedication to their roles. Whether it’s through hospitality, clear messaging, spiritual guidance, or event coordination, every part of the team helps Campus View fulfill its mission. Their example reminds me that even the smallest tasks—like scheduling a post or writing a caption—can serve a greater purpose when done with intention and faith.
Overall, this internship is giving me not just professional experience, but also personal growth and a deeper appreciation for how communication and ministry go hand in hand.
Glimpse of what I worked on this week: I took several photo of members in our congregation and during service, as well as prepared and posted new content to social media. Here are some of the posts/covers that I uploaded these past few weeks!
